How To Let Go
No More Poem
If I’m your hidden figure
Leave me alone
I want no part of your business
If I’m your fetish
Stay where you lay
I’ll have no part of your illness
If I’m your tether
Cut the chord
Walk alone as I have all my existence
If I am your entanglement
Deal with your mess
As all left me to do for decades
Even though I didn’t do this to myself
The scales must be balanced
Everyone had so long
To set the record straight
No one did
You all just stole, profited, blamed
Everyone had all my support
To be anything
Everyone got their wishes granted
No one has ever once
Returned a favor
But I’m the one left with the baggage
For the past three years
The world watched me get tortured
No one stepped in
Left with the swords in my back
I appreciate the love sent
Sort of
If that’s what you can call it
But freedom for a Black woman
Requires a hell of a lot more
Like tangible actions
Not more exploiting
Just like your careers needed much
And you were handed everything
I helped you launch them
Sustain them
Enhance them
Save them
Time
And time
And time
And time again
Yet no one saw my life
As worth saving?
My story worth telling authentically
No
All you all saw
Was how you could gain
How you could keep control
How you could profit
How what was important to you
Would be maintained
Consequences to me ignored
Decade after decade
Just like foretold
“No one will help you”
And no one has
All of you sided with pedophiles
How does it feel to live like that?
All I asked for was truth
Pay your contract
Honor the commitment you made
You provided nothing
Except drama
More mess for me deal with
More exploiting
More abuse
More lies
More transfers of wealth
Entitled to all I am
Accountable for nothing
May you all reap as you have sown
So Be It
I won’t wait to cut the ties
I will no longer answer your calls
Entanglements obliterated
Now and forever
None shall ever cross the gate
The Bridge is forever burned
None shall cross it
I’m ending all of it
I don’t care about your threats
Do your best
So Be It
All that I have given until this moment
Keep
From this day forward
Ask nothing of me
Shed no tears
Waste no breath
Seek no guidance
Make no claims
Seek no arrangement
Don’t ask
Don’t demand
Don’t scream
Don’t cry
Don’t reach out
Send no messages
Don’t claim you’ll die
If you can’t get to me
I’m walking away forever
Just like you halfway did to me
Decade after decade
After stripping me bare
Consequences be damned
Don’t provide commentary
You don’t know what’s happening
You couldn’t possibly understand
If you add two cents
What positivity I once had about it
Will never happen again
I’m not your projection
I’m a Black woman in America
Leave it at that
