Growing Old

You drink me in

Night after night

Day after day

Your wine a replacement

For my sacred juices

Holy rituals

Vessels in men and women

The price for your bride

Decades of longing in separation

An oath taken

But never betrayed

The long road taken

Never surrendered

Hard times come and go

Across the ages

But love never dies

Love never fails

People shame me for speaking

Because you lie in another’s bed

But time and space

Across many decades

Is quite the weight

For your first to bare

I am respond to your cries

Because you ask

I will never turn you away

Where the sun shines

Best let it the warmth

Nourish

You never let go

You never walked away

You never denied me

You never stopped communicating

If there is a sin

It is with those who lied

To inflict pain

To control outcomes

To grift

To enslave

To manipulate

I’m the easy target

Because I have no protections

It matters not

Training is muscle memory

I know how to defend

The cosmos blessed us with
